A consortium of farmers for grain export is being created in Siberia

The authorities of the Siberian regions plan to create a consortium of agrarians to export grain to large foreign buyers and to simplify the export of wheat, problems with which have been observed in the Siberian Federal District (SFD) over the past two years. The agreement on the creation of the consortium is scheduled to be signed in June in Omsk, Omsk Region Governor Alexander Burkov told TASS on Monday.

“In June, in Omsk, we want to sign the constituent documents on the creation of a grain export consortium. The bottom line is that today large international companies are not ready to purchase (grain) in small batches. They need large volumes, guaranteed quality, guaranteed performance of contractual obligations. Only large traders can do this, ”Burkov said.

According to him, the consortium will also include representatives of transport structures. “The transport system must also be worked out. If they (carriers) understand the load on their rolling stock, they are ready to reduce prices. It is also possible to jointly plan and regulate the speed of movement of products, ”said the governor.

He added that the work on uniting Siberian producers, processors, exporters and logisticians of grain and oilseeds is aimed not only at meeting the needs of buyers.

“Another thing is important – to adjust the price, not to let it drop. When we enter (the market) alone, the same Chinese partners start to lower us in price, because there are different offers. A unified pricing policy is very important here, ”the agency’s interlocutor emphasized.

The Omsk Region is one of the ten largest Russian producers of grain, milk and meat.

In 2018, the volume of agricultural production amounted to 88.5 billion rubles, of which crop production amounted to 46.2 billion rubles, livestock products – 42.3 billion rubles. 3.2 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, oilseeds – 265.7 thousand tons were harvested, potatoes and vegetables – 665.6 thousand tons were harvested.
